Muscle knots can be attributed to continued passive use of muscles. The major difference is the quality of the pain. Nerve pain tends to be sharp and shooting and can also include such sensations as tingling, numbness, weakness, hot or cold, in the area of the obstruction and also along the nerve’s pathway. Muscle pain is usually dull and achy and concentrated in one area, although they can sometimes refer pain to other locations.
