I think physical therapy would be a better option than surgery. The only time surgery is absolutely necessary in that area is if you are losing control of your bowel or bladder.
Other than that, you want to try everything else available first.

hi, i did an rmi and we could se an herniated disc l5-s1 left side only, im 26 and i dont know if i should have surgery?do you think fisio teraphy helps??

i feel you im 18 i get pain in my buttocks every day cause of the sciatic nerve that is pinching it and im only 18!! exercise juss makes it worse
March 6, 2010 - 4:07 pm
It’s difficult, because sometimes surgery is the only option. What I find, though, is that sometimes people think they’ve tried everything but haven’t really.
You may want to try my free eCourse, which you can learn about if you go to my website. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the Bulging Disc Resources link. If you look on the left side of the screen you will see where you can sign up. Take a look because it helps a lot of people.

March 6, 2010 - 5:40 pm
and you’ll see on the left side of the screen where you can sign up for the ecourse. Most of those recommendations will help you, even if you don’t have a disc condition, so start with that and then let me know how you’re doing.

Hi there! You’re definitely very young for these types of symptoms. There could be a disc problem developing in your neck, but the symptoms in the lower part of your back aren’t really consistent with a disc problem in the lower back. I would try to ice your neck – 15 min on, 1 hour off, then repeat as often during the day as you can. Also, you should sign up for my free ecourse – go to my website & scroll to the very bottom of the page – click on the link that says “bulging disc resources”

Hi there! That actually doesn’t sound like a slipped disc to me. I’d be willing to bet that your sacrum or hip is subluxated (misaligned). You would do well with chiropractic care on that.
March 6, 2010 - 6:50 pm
and also if I lean back not far enough to crack a normal back. I wouldn’t lean back very far and My back is constantely cracking and if I breath in too strongly it will also crack and sometimes in some discomfort

im having back pain at my left lower lumber, possibly at my sacral joint. it hurts when i lift my right leg. and its NOT that severe. i mean i can walk yada3 but cant lift my right leg too high or bend my back. could this be slip disc?
March 6, 2010 - 9:42 pm
Wow – that is difficult. Have you tried any nutritional supplements? Like a good joint support formula? I have no idea if you’ve signed up for my free ecourse or not, but I have a whole video on nutrition for this condition. The supplements I recommend usually reduce the inflammation quite a bit, and should help with the pain. That’s the only other thing I can think of without you going through your doctor.
March 6, 2010 - 10:13 pm
Well I am having a difficult time getting medical attention because I have to see the “team” doctor and it is frowned upon to see your own doctor. Its complicated but that’s where I am at right now.
March 6, 2010 - 11:10 pm
Well, first of all, heat is the worst thing you can do if you’re in that much pain – you should be icing your back 15 min every hour for at least 5 treatments a day. Do this for 3 – 7 days and the pain should ease up. It sounds like you may have a disc problem – have you been evaluated by anyone to see if this is the case?

I am a collge wrestler and i am dealing with back pain. I have used electric stimulation, heat, ice and stretching. Nothing seems to help. I am usually able to drill for about 5 minutes and then the pain comes back. when its at its worst I can’t bend my back or sit down without being in extreme pain. My spine hurts to the touch and seems to hurt more on the side of the spine.

Hi there and thank you so much about this it is very positive to know there is hope. Its hard to stay positive when pain is present. Thanks again for taking your time to help.
March 7, 2010 - 12:23 am
Hi there! You’re still very young, and I always like to stay positive about these things because a herniated disc CAN heal – it just takes a long time (as in 3 – 5 years). Just realize that you’re in a very good position because you’re young, and you’re not in much pain. However, don’t let that deceive you – you still need to be careful with your back because healing takes time.

HI thaks alot for taking your time rchirodoc Im 21 years old beleive i have a herniated disc because of my symptoms the pains are very low though i could bare with out any pain medicine and i still do alot of my everyday activities Im just more scared than anything. If a herniated disc at my age what are the chances a herniated or some herniated disc will heal.. Thanx again
March 7, 2010 - 1:28 am
You’re pretty young, so I wouldn’t doubt that you could improve both the limp and the spinal curvature. However, most doctors are conservative and will give you the worst case scenario, so what they’ve told you is what they are supposed to tell you with your condition. I’ve seen many things that don’t make sense medically, though, so don’t give up – realize that if they will change, it will take some time, though.
March 7, 2010 - 1:49 am
Im 20 and have a herniated disc l5-s1 for 2 years now. They recomended surgery, however said that the limp and spinal curve that i developed might not go away. Is that true?
March 7, 2010 - 2:11 am
It’s pretty common for your doctor to recommend an epidural. Just know that it’s usually temporary, so they’ll probably also refer you for PT if they haven’t already. Surgery is always a last resort, so your doctor won’t usually recommend that until they’ve tried everything else.
