@mrpeepers06145 I don’t know of any surgery that could be done that a surgeon would then clear you for wrestling. You might conceivably get good enough results from spinal decompression to reduce the disc herniation enough to get released to wrestle, but it’s a longshot. I suggest looking into whether anyone in your area has the DRX9000C decompression equipment to be evaluated and find out more specifically what your chances are.

I have bone spurs and a herniated disc in my neck, I believe my C-4. Is there any surgeries out there that would put me back on the wrestling mat in college?

The best thing you can do is take very good care of your back on a daily basis. I recommend you check out my “Sciatica Exercises, Part 1″ video and go to the website shown on that video to get my free ebook and my email course on understanding sciatica. The main thing to keep in mind is that you will need to manage the condition for life – there really is not a “cure” per se. The good news is that you probably can keep things in good shape with daily exercises. Good luck!

I have a question, I recently was sent to get a few MRI’s of my back. My complaint was MAJOR pain down my right leg, Burning on the top of my right foot. And burning in the middle of my back. Well, come to find out i have 5 herniated discs. 3 being major. I got these wile i was taking care of my mother with Alzhimers. Lifting her and such, Now my question is, what is a person to do about this with no insurance what so ever. When i over do any activity im pretty much useless for a few days.

I’m a sophomore in college researching herniated discs.Mainly because I’m interested in how nerves work and I, too, suffered an accident when I was 12 and herniated three discs in my lower back (L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1). Sounds fun right? =P
Anyways! This is a great source of information that I would like to use for my research paper. It’s really a big help when doctors have YouTube posts. haha. Thanks for posting!

I have just been watching some of George Best’s videos. I am surprised, but very pleased that he is a convert to the McKenzie Technique. Firstly, I wasn’t aware that it had penetrated the medical community’s consciousness in the USA. Secondly, Dr Best is apparently a chiropractor, a profession that is generally hostile towards the McKenzie Technique. In any case, these videos show a caring and informative therapist. Kudos.

Thank you for the reply! Though, I already know a lot about the Mckenzie exercises, I’ve been doing them everyday since almost day 1 of my injury (march 4 09). They have been a help. I have seen your vids and got the book thanks! Your advice and info on here is fantastic.
My back problems are just chronic now and I’m only 19 (and now I understand more why it switches sides from time to time)
Thanks

If you have not already, I suggest you try the exercise shown on my “Sciatica Exercises, Part 1″ video. I also suggest you get the free ebook at my website that is shown on the video and consider my member’s area for more in-depth self treatment instruction. Good luck!

I don’t think I can explain better verbally what I tried to demonstrate in the video. The disc is fluid, and the bulge can shift from one side to the other depending on the physical stresses on it. In addition, muscles can produce the pain and those symptoms can vary depending on the stresses on the muscles and variations in circulation. Finally, you can have both disc-related pain and muscular pain at the same time, especially since the disc problem can irritate the muscle.

I saw ur videos on the true sciatica and the other muscle type i feel both the symtoms and the pain also switches to the other leg somtimes i.e to the right leg. wats that I am real confused?

Very well put, I had this explained to me last week on my first ever visit to the Chiropractor. I have had sciatica on and off for years then lifted a heavy box last month and became very twisted. Watching your videos lift the spirits.

I’m not sure, but sharing my own experiences, I found swimming to be beneficial in reducing the pain over time by strengthening the muscles. Wishing you a steady and gradual recovery.
January 5, 2011 - 3:31 pm
I’m in a similar condition, I hope you work towards recovery. A lot of it has to do with having a positive frame of mind. My doctor gave me the low-down and it really depressed me for months. Yet, my physiotherapist was more upbeat and that cheer does help a great deal. Sometimes the injury extends to our sense of confidence. Noticing you are into martial arts, I found Bruce Lee’s story inspiring when he had a back injury and was told his days were over too. But he got back up with hard work.

Thank you for sharing this video, it is very helpful for patients like myself to understand. I really appreciate it, hopefully that would add to my insight towards gradual recovery. My big worry besides herniation is DDD. I hope back problems can be fully remedied in the near future. My doc once told me, 100% recovery is impossible, but they try to improve our condition to the closest percentage as before. What I learnt in most part in having a positive attitude in rehab.

I’ve been in the woodshed 20 years proving to myself everything I am here to share. I’m getting old, and feel a duty to pass it on.
when I scan other vids on the topic it drives me crazy to see the world consumed w/ discs. despite all it’s known flaws, docs keep presenting it like it’s bloody fact.
I feel like one of those first people to realize the earth is round and not flat. I know it’s round, and one day the rest of the world will catch up.
January 5, 2011 - 4:06 pm
yes yes yes! check out my argument, it’s water tight. I don’t just point out flaws, I have the solution, it’s all demonstrable.
the real problem is it requires the sort of time and physical labor most doctors have no desire to provide. it doesn’t make for a good economic model. and guess what? the skill position is the person doing the work.
but you want truth? I got it. and I’m not the genius, just the messenger. IF you do the work you can prove it to yourself just as I had to.
